The United Arab Emirates runs the most developed labour administration in the Gulf. A work permit is issued by the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation before you travel, an entry permit follows, and after arrival the process converts into Emirates ID, medical fitness testing and a residence visa stamped into your passport. Free zone employment runs through the relevant free zone authority instead of MoHRE but follows the same logic. What matters to a Pakistani worker is that the offer and the contract you sign in Lahore should be the same offer and contract registered on the government system — if there are two versions, that is the whole warning you need. Dubai's demand is broadest in construction, hospitality, retail, logistics and facilities management; Abu Dhabi skews toward energy, infrastructure and healthcare.

The variable step is employer selection, which depends entirely on live demand for your trade. Post-arrival steps — medical fitness, Emirates ID and residence stamping — are handled by the employer within the period the law allows. Attestation of educational documents is the step that most often delays professional-role candidates, so we start it early.

Dubai (UAE) work visa — frequently asked questions
Should I go to Dubai on a visit visa and look for a job?
We do not recommend it and we do not arrange it. Working on a visit visa is unlawful, it leaves you with no contract and no protection, and it has stranded more Pakistani workers than any other single decision. The legal route is an employer-issued work permit before you fly.
Who pays for a UAE work permit?
On a properly structured offer, the employer bears the work permit and residence costs. Sky Heights charges a service fee stated in writing before anything begins.
What is MoHRE and why does the contract have to be registered?
The Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation administers UAE labour law. The contract registered with MoHRE is the contract that is legally enforceable. If the paper you signed in Pakistan does not match it, the registered one wins — which is why we check.
What is the Emirates ID?
The national identity card every resident must hold. Your employer arranges registration after arrival, alongside medical fitness testing, as part of getting your residence visa.
Do I need my degree attested?
For professional and many skilled roles, yes — attestation through the required chain in Pakistan and then the UAE. For general labour roles it is usually not needed. We tell you which applies to your specific offer.
Can I drive in the UAE on my Pakistani licence?
Not for employment. Driving roles require a UAE licence; eligibility for conversion versus a full test depends on current rules and your licence category.
How long is a typical UAE contract?
Under current law, fixed-term contracts are standard and renewable. The exact term, notice and probation are stated in your registered contract.
Can I change employer in the UAE?
Transfer between employers is possible under current labour rules, subject to notice, contract terms and any applicable conditions. It is not automatic and should not be assumed when you sign.
